My Sit Spot is Gone

On this blog and on my radio show I talked about my sit spot. It’s a special place in nature that I go to meditate and sometimes observe nature. Well I have two but my favorite was on my way to work. It was an oasis in an urban environment where I found my balance each day.

Well, it’s gone.  The area is now full of construction equipment and the trees were ripped from their foundation. Then they were piled one on top of each other like corpses with roots exposed to the sun. They looked like bodies about to be dumped in a mass grave, but there was no grave. The trees were mulched and made to disappear.

The hawk, turtle, opossum and countless other animals that lived there are now homeless.

I no longer have a sacred area to pray.

I feel the loss much more than I thought I would. I had befriended many of the trees. I cringe at the naked ground unprotected like the strip mines in Appalachia.  My heart aches at the loss of life.

We have been promised a manicured pond and a few trees, but the wilderness will never be there again.

My friends and I are beginning to healing the area and ourselves one day at a time.
